Dog Training Leash
I recently brought my 2 year old shih tzu, Cute Cute for dog obedience training at the park. Although we arrived early that morning, the chief trainer arrived earlier than us. Said our usual good morning to each other and our next topic was about our dogs. He had a very well trained beagle. About the same size with Cute Cute except his dog is thinner compared to Cute Cute, she is chubby.
I have been training Cute Cute off leash at the park near our home whereby the surroundings are walls. Here at this park, there’s no wall, no fence. There is a three feet drain separating the park and the parking lot that leads to the highway road where cars are moving at 120km per hour.
Since I have done off leash with Cute Cute at the park near my home, and I make sure we are in the park after the three feet drain. I have never done this but that day I did it. I remove the leash from Cute Cute’s collar. The next thing I knew, Cute Cute was very far from me about 40 feet into the park chasing birds. Cute Cute has never had this opportunity to run wild and free like this before and I was really happy to see her run and jump like that.
I started to run towards Cute Cute to join her but suddenly the birds changed direction and was flying towards the highway road. I saw that coming and I changed direction too but Cute Cute out run me. She ran passed me, I called her name Cute Cute comes back, but she was too engrossed with the birds. As I was chasing behind Cute Cute I remembered the three feet drain. Cute Cute can never jump that drain and suddenly I saw her jumping over the drain still chasing the birds. This time I got panicked and I speed up. I caught her just in time before she hit the fast moving cars at the highway road.
I realised even dogs are like us, human. Even though our dogs are very well trained, they can get excited and do silly things that we will regret later. I thank god, Cute Cute was safe. That was really close.
