Puppies are fragile and caring for them requires knowledge on how to take care of his coat, skin and nails. Start off with the new puppy. We normally think as dog owners, it is a mistake to bath or brush them if they are under 6 months old. You worry about the bathing might cost dry out or brushing may be too rough on a puppy at this age but the opposite is actually true. Many of them come with dirty smelly coat and these dogs need to be bath and there is no harm in doing so. There are so many types of shampoos on the market which design to be gentle on puppy’s skin and coat where it does not burn or irritate the eyes. Again, it is ok to bath a puppy when he gets dirty.
The skin and hair of a puppy is very similar to a human, biochemically. Both human and puppy skin and hair contains protein with oil and these day there are so many kinds of shampoos designed for dogs of all ages and coat types which allows the owner to bath them whenever they want, even daily. Normally, puppies are bath ever week and this not only helps to control odor but it is also hygienic in preventing skin infections. Do you know that most puppies especially those young ones enjoy bathing very much? Do brush and comb to remove dirt or dead hair and use warm water to shower through. Apply shampoo and lather it just like what you do to your hair and allow it to sits for a while and then rinse it. A normal room temperature is good to dry you puppy’s coat. Try not using hair dryer but if you insist, make it cool.
