Watch Your Pet’s Treats
It all started giving this delicious looking treat to my 2 shih tzus. They were added into their dry food for breakfast and dinner. The same night, one of my shih tzu name Chewie begged to be allow out of the room and she ran so fast straight to her toilet. Did her business and walked back to bed. The next morning, she vomited and vomited and was unable to poo. She will squat at her toilet for couple of seconds but nothing comes out.
We immediately take her to the hospital and the vet gave Chewie an injection to stop the vomit. It helped but at 6pm the same day, Chewie was struggling to poo again. Finally she managed to poo but just a dot of faeces came out together with some blood stain. Followed with vomit with blood stain too. This time we drove to the vet hospital and she was admitted. It was very painful for us to see her being put into the cage. She sensed something is wrong, the minute the vet was about to shut the cage, she struggled and pushed the metal with her mouth with all her strength. We can see she is really scared and is calling for help… being a princess all the while at home, she did not bark at all but just keep pushing and pushing the metal seeking for help. It was a trauma for her and for us.
We could not sleep that night. Just watching the clock and waiting for sun rise. Finally, it is morning and we called the hospital. Chewie is better . No more vomiting. Just taken blood test and waiting for the result. We call again after 2 hours, blood test is still not out. At 2pm, we went to the hospital to see Chewie. She was still in the same sitting position we left her last night. Vet said she sat like that the whole night, refuse to even lie down. Probably waiting for us to walk in and take her home. Vet broke the news about her blood test saying that she is a fine and healthy dog. It is the fungus of the treat that gave her this problem and it is good we brought her in early, therefore, the bacteria have not gone into her blood stream. If the blood is infected, it will damaged her organs such as kidney, liver etc…. and this can be fatal.
We brought Chewie home happily that day and we thought she is fully recovered but the next day, her struggled to poo started again. We monitored her very carefully. 1 hour became every 10 minutes she will run to the toilet . We gave her ID food and she refused to eat them. Finally, mummy remembered Chewie’s favorite food - bread. Mummy gave a little to Chewie and she finished the whole bread although the vet said no to bread. After giving her the bread, suprisingly Chewie stop running to the toilet. 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours finally half a day went pass, Chewie still did not run to the toilet. We knew she is feeling better. We gave her some glucose upon the advise from the vet. When evening comes, we fed her by adding some bread crumps into the ID food and she finished them all. Still no sign of poo but we know she is recovering.
On the other hand, mummy begin to notice Cute Cute, our 2nd shih tzu that took the same treats was showing signs of problem. She did not poo for 2 days and her tongue had a slight tinge of purple. Mother’s instinct quickly take her to the vet. Gave her some liquid to help her to poo. Now we are waiting for our 2 shih tzus to poo….. Will continue on their update ….

You did not give the name of the treats…I think it would be a good idea.
When one of our dogs had surgery and would not poo the vet told me to give her canned pumpkin. It worked. It might not be a good idea in this case but it might help at other times.
We hope that you have a good poop evening!

I am sorry for this pain, the producers should eat themselves these treats! It is a shame we can’t trust nobody and our pets are not safe! Home made food is the best option!
All the best to Chewie and Cute Cute, I pray and hope they’ll be completely recovered as soon as possible!

Hi everyone. I did some research and found out the treats that caused this. So beware and do not feed these to your dog!
It is by “Jerhigh” and this is the advertisment:
“Soft Dog Snack. Jerhigh Soft Dog Snack is an organic dog snack 100% for a healthy and unforgettable taste experience, now comes in different taste.
Jerhigh Carrot Soft Snack is packed full of vitamins and minerals and low in fat, and is a good way to help keep your dog’s coat glossy and healthy.”
And… apparantly “a good way to help get your dog” in the animal hospital!
Their website: http://www.jerhigh.com/products/soft-dog-carrot.html
That’s really awful.
You were feeding something that you thought was healthy and this happens!!

Chewie, there are other cases of this on the Net. Do some deep research and you will find it. Apparantly, this Jerhigh company may have known about their bad treats months ago!

From “Marc” the date he posted the following was January 2009!!:
I have been feeding both my dogs with a similar product although it is supposedly made in Thailand, distibuted by VitaPet, they are called Jerhigh and made from chicken meat, maybe a coincidence, but my oldest dog has been feeling a bit “off” lately and consuming more water and urinating more often, the Vet told me today, that following a urine test, she is not concentrating and it may be related to kidney disease???

Also view this website where you will see someone posted a comment in January 2008 about opening a pack of Jerhigh and it was “all moldy” even though the best before date was October 2008.!!!

Read the last comment at the bottom of the page by: “petslover” and this is what they wrote:
“not sure those products approve by the authority in Malaysia.
i bought one of the jerhigh flavour, and the expiry date stated on the packet oct ‘08. but when i opened the packet, its all moldy. so, brand new packet with bad product inside.”

The first comment on page 5 named: “Angel serene” said that she gave her dog a jerhigh milk stick and she vomited!

This Jerhigh manufacturer needs to pay for ALL your dog’s medical bills! Evidently, they are selling tainted products since even a year and a half ago!!!
Hope your dogs both recover and never eat Jerhigh again!

This is horrible that these companies would poison our dogs. We no longer buy anything other than US made treats. US has standards that have to be followed, granted, they are not that great of standards, but none the less, better than foreign countries. We believe these companies should bed brought to the surface and reprimanded. The Chinese products aka, Menu Foods, poisoned and killed dogs and the warning was put out. These people were slow to act and more dogs died because they tried to hide the fact their product was bad. Menu Foods took a lot of time to pull the products. Chewie Mom has pictures of the product with mold in the bag. Need to post those here. It proves the product was tainted. The fact that this company knew of their bad product and still continued to sell it is deplorable. These companies should be brought to accountability.
We are so happy that Chewie and Cute Cute are better.

This is so awful! It’s a shame that we can’t trust any company these days. Did I see Greenies up there? There was just a recall on those too!

Hi I noticed one of the packs of treats in the picture is Greenies. Are these included?? OMG I give them to my little Lexi all the time.

Thanks for all the comments, furiends. Debby the greenies are not involved. At that point of time, we only fed girls the jerhigh treats mix with dry food .So glad , girls are ok now.

Poor Chewie and Cute Cute — that is so scary. I am so glad to hear they have recovered. That is shameful of the company for selling these bad treats.
